The Early Years
The Salem Singers motto has always been "Spreading the
Gospel of Jesus Christ through the medium of music."

Originally comprised of twelve Christian laymen from various occupations and church affiliations throughout Oregon's Willamette Valley, the power of their ministry became increasingly evident as they used their vocal gifts to glorify God, touching the lives of all those who listened to their message of God's love.

The Early Recordings
The first recording, titled In His Care on one side and Since Jesus Took All My Sins Away / Jubilee on the reverse side, was a 78 rpm recording. The second record contained When I Survey and Valley of Peace, was also a 78 rpm recording. The third recording, The Salem Singers, was the first 33 1/3 rpm long-play album.

Wilbur Rickard
August 13, 1928 - November 21, 2011

Wilbur was one of the founding members of the Salem Singers and faithfully served his Lord through music for 60 years. He was a "rock" to the chorus and was an inspiration to all who knew him during his dedicated service with the Salem Singers. His steadfastness and leadership will be greatly missed.
